Commissioner-elect Charles Rousseau will be sworn in tonight at County Commission.  At that time, to borrow a phrase from the hockey world, the Fayette Commission will be back to “full strength.”

This fall, Peachtree City will be asking its citizens for permission to use a proven tool for economic development.  A referendum is on the ballot for November to allow the city to consider tax allocation districts (TAD) for future redevelopment.  State law requires that a municipality asks its citizens to vote on the concept of a TAD first before a specific TAD is proposed.
Peachtree City is also moving forward with putting the City offices on municipal fiber and extending the utility to the South 74 business corridor.  Peachtree City wants to use this as an incentive to attract high-paying jobs and investment to its industrial area, as well as provide a revenue buffer against shrinking revenues from franchise fees as more people use cell phones in place of land lines.  The fiber optic system is expected to operational at the end of 2016.  The City also hopes that the private sector may use the City’s fiber optic “backbone” and offer residents high speed access in the future.
